A Visit to Upstate New York and the Maple Leaf Quilt Block

Celebrate autumn or your favorite maple farm with this unique maple leaf quilt block. I made this block with fabrics from Leatherstocking Quilts to commemorate our trip in upstate New York. Surprisingly maple syrup is important in upstate New York and I used a fun syrup fabric that the shop owner suggested when I asked for New York fabric.

My New York Fabric Haul

This is a fairly easy block to make. I like that it is a little different from the traditional maple leaf block. You could have a lot of fun with the shading on this one.

I chose the two maple syrup fabrics along with a tan batik that I had in my stash.

Cutting Instructions
Tan:
A - 3 - 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
B - 3 - 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
C - 1 - 2 ½” x 2 ½” square
D - 1 - 3 ½” x 3 ½” square

Medium Brown (syrup fabric)
E - 3 - 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
F - 4  - 2” x 2” squares
G - 1 - 2 ½” x 2 ½” square

Dark Brown (wood fabric)
H - 4 - 1 ½” x  2 ½” rectangles
I - 1 - 3 ½” x 1” rectangle
