Farm Feathered Folk Table Runner Tutorial

Farm Feathered Folk Table Runner Tutorial

I'm so excited to share my latest Benartex Sewcial Star project. For my tutorial project, I am going to help you with your fussy cutting and fabric panel skills while making the Weathervane block and Farm Feathered Folk Table Runner!

Weathervane Block

The Weathervane block is  a simple but striking quilt block that is perfect for featuring your favorite fabric motif. The video tutorial walks you through the construction of one block, but the cutting instructions give you enough pieces for two so that you can go on to make the Farm Feathered Folk Table Runner.

Cutting instructions (for 2 blocks):

  • Green:
    • A - 32 - 2” x 2”
    • B - 1 - 6” x 6”
  • Blue Dot:
    • C - 1 - 6” x 6”
    • D - 8 - 3 ½” x 2”
  • Blue Flower:
    • E - 8  - 3 ½” x 3 ½”
  • Chicken:
    • F - Fussy Cut 2 - 3 ½” x 3 ½”

In this video you’ll learn how to fussy cut the perfect center square for your quilt block and how to assemble the Weathervane quilt block. The block finishes at 9 ½” x 9 ½”.

Here is the 8-at-a-time Half-square Triangles video:

Make the Table Runner

Cutting perfect panel pieces shouldn’t stress you out!  Sometimes, no matter how carefully you cut, the panel piece still ends up being crooked due to fabric stretch. I’ll show you how to straighten those pieces as much as possible with water and steam to get those wonky fabric pieces to straighten up.

Cutting instructions:

  • Panel:
    • 3 - 9 ½” x 9 ½”
  • Sashing:
    • 6 - 1 ½”  x 9 ½”
    • 2 - 1 ½” x 52”
  • Border:
    • 2 - 3 ½” x 11 ½”
    • 2 - 3 ½” x 58”

In this video I’ll show you how to straighten those pieces as much as possible with water and steam to get those wonky fabric pieces to straighten up. Then I will show you how to use the panel pieces and your Weathervane blocks to make a simple table runner.

A huge THANK YOU to  Benartex for providing the fabrics for this tutorial. The fabrics in this tutorial are Farm Feathered Folk and Shadow Blush.
