Shading Collage Quilts with the Sleepy Dragon Pattern

Shading Collage Quilts with the Sleepy Dragon Pattern

Occasionally when you are making a collage quilt, you may find that while the object is one color in reality, using only one color with fabric makes the object flat or indistinguishable. With the sleepy dragon, using just one color for the whole dragon would just be an indistinguishable blob. This is when you need to consider shading to help give your collage dimension.

For the dragon, I used several shades of teal to distinguish the head, tail, body, arms, and wings. By using different shades of the same color, you can now see the various parts of the dragon and he isn’t just one blob.
