The Inspiration for the Lorelei Collage Quilt

The Inspiration for the Lorelei Collage Quilt

Meet Lorelei! My newest collage pattern is inspired by the story of the Loreley of the Rhine River. Legend has it that a mermaid disguised as a farmer's daughter (or a sweet young maiden) fell in love with a man who did not love her back. When he sailed away on the Rhine, she spent her days waiting for him to return; singing sad songs and luring sailors into the rocks.

While traveling on the Rhine River, we were able to see the bronze statue honoring the legend. She's a bit off in the distance, but if you look just to the left and below the blue flag, you will see her.

The statue has Loreley with human legs, but I decided to lean into the legend that she had once been a mermaid and gave her a tail. The collage shows us the view that the Lorelei sees as she waits for her lover to return.

The Lorelie mini collage finishes at 10" x 10". You can get the pattern here: Lorelei Mini Collage Digital PDF Pattern
