Windmill Wool Ornament

Let's learn how to make a fun windmill ornament!

For this tutorial you will need:

  • White Wool - 1- 5" X 5" square
  • Buie Wool - 1 - 5" X 5" square
  • Navy Wool - 2 - 5" X 5" square
  • Coordinating Embroidery Floss or Perle Cotton
  • Fusible such as FlexiFuse
  • Ribbon for hanger

To make the ornament:

  1. Using the templates, trace the appliqué pieces onto the papery side of the fusible.
  2. Loosely cut out the shapes leaving at least ¼" margins from the drawn line.
  3. Iron the bumpy of the fusible pieces to the wrong side of the wool.
  4. Cut out the wool pieces on the drawn line.
  5. Peel off the paper backing and place the windmill pieces on one navy square.
  6. Iron the wool to the background, using steam to strengthen the adhesive.
  7. Use a whip stitch to stitch the appliqué pieces to the background.
    OPTIONAL: Add fun embroidery to the ornament.
  8. Fuse the second navy square to the back of the ornament.
  9. Trim ¼" from the edge of the windmill.
  10. Use a blanket stitch to sew the back and front of the ornament together.
  11. Cut a 10" piece of ribbon or thread and attach to back of the ornament with a single running stitch.
  12. Tie the ribbon togehter at the top to create a hanger for the ornament.
