Goldenhead Flower - #QuiltBlockMania

Goldenhead Flower - #QuiltBlockMania

This month’s #QuiltBlockMania was a bit of a challenge for me.  The theme is desert and I have to admit that the only time I’ve been to the desert was when I went to Arizona for a friend’s funeral.  Needless to day, exploring the area was not a priority for that trip. Pretty much all that I know about the desert is that it is brown and has a lot of cacti.  I also know that it is where the Sand Cat lives, which is my husband’s favorite animal at the zoo.

Look at him.  Isn’t he the cutest?  His name is Cosmo.

The Sand Cats natural habitat is in Africa and Asia, which wouldn’t work for my Across the US theme, so I did a little research and discovered the goldenhead flower.  The goldenhead flower thrives in the arid landscapes of the Mojave Basin. This bloom has shimmering golden petals and lush green foliage.  It graces the Mojave's sandy expanses and rocky outcrops, bringing a splash of vibrant color to an otherwise rugged terrain.
