Handheld Calculator - #QuiltBlockMania
It's time for another #QuiltBlockMania post!
This month the theme is technology and I designed a block with a handheld calculator.
The idea for this block came from my husband. He always knows the weirdest trivia facts and when I asked if he knew of any technology that was unique to Texas, he told me that the first handheld calculator was invented in Texas.
When I looked it up, I found that Texas Instruments created the prototype, Cal Tech, in 1967. The invention team was led by Jack Kirby. It was released commercially in 1970, weighing just 45 ounces. The prototype can be found in the Smithsonian Museum of American History.

My calculator is an homage to that first calculator. I left the buttons blank, but this would be really cute with additional embroidery on the buttons and screen.
The Calculator pattern is only free through the month of September when you sign up for my newsletter.

I hope you have as much fun making your block as I did designing it!
